Warranty Coverage

Your Roof Is Protected on Every Level

Three layers of protection — manufacturer materials, extended system, and our 10-year labour workmanship guarantee.

Manufacturer

Limited Lifetime Warranty

Lifetime / limited

Laminated architectural shingles carry an industry-standard Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects — provided by the shingle manufacturer, not the contractor.

  • Covers defects in materials & manufacturing
  • Non-prorated for the first 10 years
  • Pro-rated coverage thereafter
  • Transferable (fees & time limits apply)

Enhanced System

Extended System Warranty

25–50 years / non-pro-rated

When qualifying accessories (underlayment, starter, ridge cap, ventilation) are installed together as a complete manufacturer-approved system, an enhanced warranty may be available through the manufacturer’s certified contractor program.

  • Non-prorated coverage for full term
  • Covers both materials & associated labour
  • Requires full system installation
  • Registered by contractor at time of install

Our Guarantee

10-Year Labour Workmanship

10 years / workmanship

We stand behind every nail. Our 10-year workmanship warranty covers installation errors, faulty application, and labour-related leaks — completely separate from the manufacturer’s material warranty.

  • Covers all installation-related defects
  • Leak-free workmanship guarantee
  • Direct recourse — no manufacturer involvement needed
  • Transferable to next homeowner

Manufacturer Coverage

Understanding Your Limited Lifetime Warranty

Laminated (architectural) asphalt shingles from major manufacturers — including GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, Atlas, IKO, and others — carry a Limited Lifetime Warranty against defects in manufacturing. This warranty is issued directly by the shingle manufacturer and cannot be altered by any actions of the homeowner or the installing contractor.

The term “lifetime” is defined by manufacturers as the period during which the original owner of the single-family residential property owns and occupies the home. “Limited” means coverage is conditioned on the product being installed correctly, the roof being properly ventilated, and all other warranty terms being met.

Important: For non-residential properties — including corporations, condominiums, homeowner associations, schools, apartment buildings, and multi-use structures — the standard Limited Lifetime Warranty term is typically reduced to 40 years, regardless of how the product is marketed.

In the rare event of a manufacturing defect, the manufacturer will generally require samples to be submitted or will send a technical representative to inspect the roof, photograph the damage, and collect samples before any claim is processed.

Coverage Schedule

Non-Prorated vs. Pro-Rated Coverage

One of the most misunderstood aspects of shingle warranties is the difference between non-prorated and pro-rated coverage. Most Limited Lifetime warranties include a short non-prorated period (typically 10 years) followed by a pro-rated period for the remainder of the warranty term.

Non-Prorated Period (Years 1–10): The manufacturer is 100% responsible for the cost of replacement materials and the associated labour to replace defective shingles. You receive the full value with no deduction for use.

Pro-Rated Period (Years 11+): Coverage is reduced on a sliding scale based on the age of the roof at the time of the claim. The older the roof, the less the manufacturer contributes. The proration is calculated by dividing the number of months elapsed since installation by the total number of months in the warranty term.

Age of Roof at Claim Manufacturer Contribution (Typical) Homeowner’s Portion Coverage Type
0 – 10 Years 100% (Materials + Labour) 0% Non-Prorated
11 – 20 Years ~65 – 80% ~20 – 35% Pro-Rated
21 – 30 Years ~40 – 60% ~40 – 60% Pro-Rated
31 – 40 Years ~20 – 40% ~60 – 80% Pro-Rated
41 – 50 Years (Lifetime) ~20% ~80% Pro-Rated (GAF Example)
51+ Years (Lifetime) 20% (capped) ~80%+ Nominal / Capped

Note: The above table reflects typical industry pro-ration schedules. Exact figures vary by manufacturer and product line. Always refer to your specific manufacturer’s warranty document for precise calculations.

Key Detail (GAF Example): For years 11–40 of a Lifetime warranty, the number of months in the warranty term is deemed to be 600 for purposes of calculating the prorated settlement. For years 41 and beyond, the manufacturer’s contribution is capped at approximately 20% of the reasonable cost of replacement materials only.

Premium Protection

Extended System Warranties (Certified Contractor Programs)

Major manufacturers offer enhanced, non-prorated system warranties through their certified contractor programs. These go well beyond the standard Limited Lifetime Warranty and can provide up to 25–50 years of non-prorated coverage on both materials and workmanship — when the contractor installs a complete, qualifying roofing system using manufacturer-approved accessories.

Examples of these programs include:

GAF Golden Pledge®️ & Silver Pledge: GAF’s Golden Pledge provides 25-year non-prorated coverage including a 25-year workmanship warranty. The Silver Pledge offers a 10-year workmanship warranty. Both are available exclusively through GAF Master Elite®️ contractors.

CertainTeed SureStart™️ 5-Star: Provides 25 years of non-prorated coverage including workmanship. Requires installation of CertainTeed’s full roofing system using a minimum number of qualifying accessories by a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster or Master Shingle Applicator.

Owens Corning Preferred Protection™️: Available through Owens Corning Preferred Contractors. Provides 50-year non-prorated coverage on all Owens Corning products used in the system, with a 10-year workmanship warranty that includes labour, waste, and new material costs.

To qualify for these enhanced warranties, the installation must include a complete “system” — typically field shingles, starter strip, underlayment, ridge cap shingles, and attic ventilation — all from the same manufacturer’s approved product line. The warranty must be registered by the contractor following installation.

Our Guarantee

Our 10-Year Labour & Workmanship Warranty

Our 10-Year Labour and Workmanship Warranty is our personal promise to you. It is entirely separate from the manufacturer’s material warranty and covers any defects arising from the installation process itself — including improper nailing, flashing errors, poor sealing, or any other installation
